(Delias aganippe)
Butterfly populations are a very good indicator of the health of an area's ecosystem !!
Also sometimes referred to as the Wood White butterfly.
Delias aganippe thrive in a wide range of habitats where Mistletoe plants are present. These habitats include wet heathlands, mallee, woodlands, dry forests, wet forests, grasslands, and urban areas.
They are on wing from Aug. until the end of May.
Warm, sunny days with little wind are the conditions in which butterflies typically fly and are the most favorable weather conditions for seeing Delias aganippe on wing.
Adults can be found flying around host plants and other nectar sources during the day, especially in areas where their host plants are abundant. (Delias aganippe targets yellow flowers and plants in the Asteraceae family).
They are known for their eye catching wing patterns, and have a unique thermoregulation tactic that utilizes unique wing angles to regulate body temperature.
There is seasonal polymorphism in the species, resulting in two seasonal forms.
