Butterfly populations are a very good indicator of the health of an area's ecosystem !!
So named because the ventral side has a pale salmon pink ground coloration.
Colotis amata are frequently found in scrublands in the low drylands and are abundant closer to sea in the arid areas.
They are known for their migratory behavior, often traveling substantial distances in search of favorable conditions.
The very slow flying Small Salmon Arab always flies close to the ground.
They practice communal roosting and choose dried up herbaceous areas to settle, allowing them to camouflage themselves.
They have a very noticeable preference for yellow flowers.
This butterfly has broad black borders on the outer and upper margins of the dorsal side of the forewings. A black oval shaped patch at the end of the forewing cell that distinctly touches the upper border can be observed.
There are some grey dustings towards the basal parts.
Occasionally, there are whitish females, especially in the dry months. Its ventral sides are yellow with irregular grey dustings.
Usually females are quite heavily marked on the ventral side.

Diet: caterpillars feed on Salvadora trees, especially Salvadora persica. They also feed on leaves of Capparis Sepiaria, Capparis Zeylanica, Cleome Gynandra, Maerua Crassifolia, Cadaba Farinosa.
Diet: adults take nectar from Ageratum flowers, Tridax flowers, Tephrosia flowers, Lantana flowers, and Acacia flowers.
Adult body size: 3.5 - 4 cm / 1.37 – 1.57 “
Avg. Wingspan: 2.56 - 3.6 cm / 1 - 1.4 “
