Butterfly populations are a very good indicator of the health of an area's ecosystem !!
   Tomares romanovi (Romanov's Hairstreak) is a small butterfly that inhabits grasslands and arid mountain steppes, usually dominated by  Tragacanth locoweeds at elevations ranging from 1200 to 1600m above sea level.
   They are on wing from late April to mid June depending on latitude and elevation.
   They produce one generation per year.
   Their dorsal side wings are brown with large red yellow spots on the forewings and smaller spots before the outer edge on the hindwings.
   The ventral side of the hindwings and the tips of the forewings are silky, bluish gray with an orange pattern.

Avg. wingspan:  is 2.8 - 3cm / 1.1 - 1.18 “.
Diet: larvae feed on the Astragalus species A. scharuhdensis and A. finitimus.
Diet: adults take nectar from flowering vegetation.
Family: Lycaenidae.
The single biggest threat to butterfly survival is habitat destruction!!
