(Panacea procilla)
Butterfly populations are a very good indicator of the health of an area's ecosystem !!
Procilla Beauty is a stunning butterfly that is found from Panama to the Amazon basin and Colombia.
The ventral side of their hindwings is reddish with a dull reddish brown tinge, covered with broken wavy black lines and a series of submarginal ocelli.
They are an impressive pollinator, attracted to flowers primarily by their bright colors and distinctive shapes.
They feed on pollen, inadvertently transferring pollen from one flower to another while feeding, which aids in the plant's reproductive process.
Potential predators are birds, spiders, bats, mammals and reptiles.
They have a lifespan as adults of about 14 days.
   * As members of the Brush Footed (Nymphalidae) family, they use their two shorter front legs for food sampling, and their two pairs of longer rear legs for propulsion.
