Butterfly populations are a very good indicator of the health of an area's ecosystem !!
Also known as the Ribbon Swallowtail.
Sericinus montelus is a butterfly endemic to East Asia and that has high ornamental value, but also an increased risk of extinction.
Adults live in broad leaved forests at low to medium altitudes, and along streams and fields.
They fly slowly, frequently gliding, often landing to take water.
Their wings are light yellow.
The front edge of the male's forewing is black, with a narrow black band on the outer edge, an intermittent black horizontal band in the middle of the wing, and a black band at the end of the middle cell, the middle and the base.
The outer edge of the hind wing has a black spot at the end of the vein, and an irregular large horizontal black spot at the anal corner, with three to four small blue spots and a horizontal red spot inside.
Female's have a black horizontal band on the outer edge and sub outer edge of the forewing, with the black horizontal band in the middle area interrupted.
There are three large black spots and two small black spots in the middle cell, and two large black spots on the hind edge.
The outer edge of the hind wing is black, with a black horizontal band on the outer edge and sub outer edge.
The outer edge horizontal band is embedded with blue spots, and the sub outer edge horizontal band is in front of the red horizontal band.
There are two dark irregular oblique stripes on the base of the wing, and the caudal process is slender and long .

Diet: caterpillars feed on poisonous plants of the genus Aristolochiaceae.
Avg. Wingspan: 5 – 9 cm / 1.96 – 3.54”.
Family: Papilionidae

The single biggest threat to butterfly survival is habitat destruction!!
