Butterfly populations are a very good indicator of the health of an area's ecosystem !!
Allancastria louristana is a butterfly that is endemic to Iran, specifically western Iran, that has one generation per year.
Their flight time depends on weather conditions and can be extended.
At the beginning of the season, males appear first, and the females emerge 7-10 days later.
Males typically perform a search flight, which is typical for other mountain representatives of the subfamily Parnassiinae .
Once they have emerged, females fly in search of food and food plants for laying eggs.
Once they have mated, females lay eggs one by one, gluing them to the undersides of leaves.
The dorsal side of Allancastria louristana's wings is light yellow with a pattern formed by small black and red spots.
The fringe of the wings is variegated.
The pattern on the ventral side of the wings repeats the color of the dorsal side.
The abdomen is covered with light hairs.

Diet: caterpillar food plants are Dutchman 's Pipe, as well as Aristolochia olivieri, and the recently recorded Aristolochia bottae (from the northen part of the distribution of Allancastria louristana)
Avg. Wingspan: 5 - 6 cm. / 1.96 – 2.36 “
Family: Papilionidae (Swallowtail famiy).
